Beer and Brewery Trademark Search; Daily Beer Distro for November 1, 2018

I conduct beer and brewery trademark searches throughout the week. One of my go to sources is the database of the US Patent and Trademark Office. There you can always catch a glimpse of new brands or breweries coming to market.

When conducting my research, I make a quick pass through the trademark database. First, checking out the new marks. And, then researching the actual businesses and individuals that filed the applications. It gives me a little insight and background on the company, usually way before these guys open their doors.

Beer and Brewery Trademark Search for Last Month

Below are a few of the new trademarks that I came across during October. I’m not picking on these guys at all, so let’s don’t go there. It’s just a little constructive comments to help everyone get a better grasp on branding strategy these days.

1. Brewery X – Filed a trademark on “Make Beer Craft Again” in late October. Not much information I could find about this startup in Anaheim other than a Facebook page with a coming soon logo. Domain search revealed quite a few domain name purchases including, and is not registered to the company.

2. BierKrafter – Trademark recently filed by Craft Beer Creations of Raleigh, NC for “BierKrafter“. The domain has a coming soon lander with the tagline “Beyond Light Beer“. The domain was first registered in April 2013, dropped in 2016, registered again and dropped in July 2017. I’m hoping that the registrant of the trademark picked up the domain in November 2017. I like to see companies get their exact match domain.

3. Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company – They just got a trademark for “The ABGB”. Their domain name is All the social media accounts are located @TheABGB. They also have the domain and it redirects to I like to see breweries that get their exact match domain names and each of their exact match social media handles. It makes for easier digital branding these days.

Now My Takeaways

For Brewery X, I can’t say this enough guys – If the domain name you want is already taken, then do whatever it takes, pay whatever you can afford and make a deal to acquire your exact match domain in dotcom before you even think about starting your business. It’s going to cost you more later.

The Facebook page is under BreweryXBeer and yet is available to register. Exact match domain is owned by a microbiologist in Hong Kong. The domain was registered October 30, four days after the filing date of the trademark. And, it doesn’t look like Brewery X is the registrant.

I love the name BierKrafter, but my concern for the company is why not go ahead and get, it’s for sale at Huge Domains – with a payment plan. You’ll spend a small fortune branding It’s just a drop in the bucket to go ahead have both domains to cover your bases. Remember the radio test here.

Austin Beer Garden will spend a lot of money branding “The ABGB”, and that’s obviously their plan. They covered all of their bases, domain name and social media wise. It’s just kind of confusing. I would have taken a look at

I also would have taken a look at, just to see. I’m willing to bet that the Austin Beer Garden ownership wanted the domain, but it was too expensive. Frank doesn’t sell his domains on the cheap. But, the price will never be lower than right now.

So, that’s just a few of the many trademarks I saw filed this past month. If you have any questions about trademarks, domain names and branding, feel free to reach out to me before you start the process. I can help.
